German authorities warned of state-sponsored hybrid threats after an explosive-laden drone was discovered near Ukrainian cargo planes at Leipzig/Halle Airport.

German authorities have raised concerns regarding state-sponsored hybrid warfare following the discovery of an explosive-laden drone at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Federal prosecutors are investigating the incident, which occurred near Ukrainian cargo planes carrying ammunition, as an attempted attack.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt warned that foreign actors are actively seeking to destabilise the country through espionage, cyberattacks, and sabotage. Speaking to domestic media, Dobrindt stated, "we are not at war, but we are daily targets for hybrid warfare."

Terrorism expert Peter Neumann indicated that foreign intelligence involvement is likely, noting that "Russia is of course the main suspect" given the choice of target and operational methodology. German authorities continue to investigate potential foreign links behind the device.
