Finnish President Alexander Stubb dismissed claims of a near-term Russian attack on NATO, even as experts warn of growing hybrid threats in the Baltic region.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has dismissed German assessments suggesting Russia could attack NATO territory by 2029, stating he sees "neither evidence nor facts" supporting such timelines. In an interview with Bild, Stubb emphasized that while he cannot imagine Moscow targeting the world's most powerful military alliance, member states must prepare for worst-case scenarios to maintain effective deterrence.

Despite Stubb's skepticism regarding a full-scale assault, security concerns remain high along NATO's eastern flank. Poland, Finland, and the Baltic states report increased Russian hybrid, intelligence, and sabotage operations. Polish military expert Col. Maciej Korowaj warned that Russian forces are actively probing NATO response mechanisms across the Baltic Sea to update operational plans, with the risk of provocations expected to escalate from September.
