Finnish President Alexander Stubb has dismissed German warnings of a potential Russian attack on NATO by 2029, even as Baltic region allies report increasing hybrid risks.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has dismissed warnings from German intelligence suggesting Russia could be capable of attacking NATO territory by 2029. Speaking to German daily Bild, Stubb stated he sees "neither evidence nor facts" supporting such a timeline and expressed doubt that Moscow would challenge "the world's most powerful military alliance." However, he stressed that member states must remain prepared for any potential scenario.

While Finnish leadership views a direct conventional conflict as unlikely, security officials in Poland, Finland, and the Baltic states report mounting non-conventional threats. Military analyst Col. Maciej Korowaj noted that Russia is actively mapping NATO response systems in the Baltic Sea region to refine potential provocation strategies, warning of heightened risks beginning in September. Consequently, regional allies are continuing to deepen defense cooperation.
