Record temperatures and extended heat alerts impact several European nations as public health concerns grow.

Multiple European nations are facing severe summer heatwaves, leading to record-breaking temperatures and heightened public health warnings.

Italy’s Health Ministry extended red heat alerts to all 27 of its largest urban areas, including Messina and Reggio Calabria, as a fourth wave of extreme weather brought temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius. Authorities have urged residents to avoid direct sunlight between 11:00 and 18:00.

In Austria, a suburb of Vienna recorded the country's highest temperature on record at 40.8 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, French health officials reported more than 7,300 excess deaths linked to 52 days of heatwaves since May. Nations across the region, including the United Kingdom, are bracing for continued high temperatures, persistent drought, and elevated wildfire risks.
