Western and Southern European countries face ongoing heatwaves, with record temperatures in Austria, rising excess deaths in France, and red alerts issued across major Italian cities.

Extreme heat continues to affect Western and Southern Europe as multiple nations report record temperatures, heightened wildfire risks, and severe health impacts. French health authorities registered over 7,300 excess deaths between May and July, following 52 days of heatwaves recorded since mid-June. In Austria, meteorologists recorded a new national temperature record of 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna.

Meanwhile, Italy has entered its fourth heatwave of the year, leading health officials to issue red alerts for all 27 major cities as temperatures reach up to 40 degrees Celsius. Authorities across the region, including in the United Kingdom and France, are preparing for continued high temperatures, dry conditions, and heightened drought risks.
