European countries face unprecedented heatwaves, with Austria setting temperature records and France reporting thousands of heat-related excess deaths.

Europe is suffering through relentless heatwaves, with multiple countries reporting record high temperatures and growing public health emergencies.

Italy’s Health Ministry extended red heat alerts to all 27 of its largest cities, including Messina and Reggio Calabria, as a fourth wave of extreme weather brings temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius. Authorities have warned residents to refrain from outdoor activities during peak daytime hours.

Meanwhile, Austria recorded its highest temperature ever at 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna. In France, health officials reported over 7,300 excess deaths linked to 52 days of heatwaves since May. Both France and the United Kingdom are bracing for further extreme temperatures alongside heightened risks of wildfires and severe drought.
