Persistent heatwaves across Italy, Austria, and Slovakia have triggered red health alerts and broken national temperature records.

Severe heatwaves persist across southern and central Europe, prompting maximum health alerts and breaking national temperature records.

In Italy, health authorities extended top-level red weather warnings to all 27 major cities as the country experiences its fourth major heatwave of the season. Temperatures approaching 40°C are expected to endure over the coming week, leading officials to advise the public to avoid direct sunlight during peak daytime hours.

Central European nations are reporting historically high readings. Austria's meteorological service registered a preliminary national record of up to 41.2°C near Vienna, surpassing the previous record set in 2013. Neighbouring Slovakia recorded temperatures reaching 41.4°C in its southern regions, while elevated temperatures continue to affect Hungary and France.
