Southern and Western Europe face continuing extreme heat, with red weather warnings issued across Italy and record temperatures registered in Austria.

The fourth heatwave of the year is intensifying across Europe, prompting maximum weather warnings and record-breaking temperatures in several nations. In Italy, health officials extended red alerts across all 27 major cities as temperatures near 40°C are expected to persist for another week. Public health authorities urged residents and tourists to avoid outdoor exposure during peak daylight hours.

Meanwhile, meteorological services reported historic heat further north and west. Austria recorded a preliminary national record of 40.8°C in Stammersdorf, north of Vienna, surpassing its 2013 high. Other nations, including France and the United Kingdom, are also preparing for elevated temperatures near 40°C amid ongoing drought and heightened wildfire risks.
