Extreme heat continues across Europe, triggering health alerts, record temperatures, and thousands of excess deaths. In Italy, health officials issued red weather warnings for 27 major cities as the nation faces its fourth heatwave of the summer, with temperatures projected to reach 40 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Austria recorded a national record high of 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna.

French health authorities reported more than 7,300 excess deaths linked to 52 heatwave days recorded between May and July. Meteorological services in France and the United Kingdom are now bracing for an additional wave of heat with temperatures again approaching 40 degrees Celsius. Ongoing dry conditions continue to heighten wildfire risks across the continent, while several global regions recorded their hottest July on record.
