Europe faces ongoing extreme heat, with Austria setting a temperature record of 40.8°C, France reporting 7,300 excess deaths, and Italy issuing red weather alerts for 27 cities.

Record-breaking temperatures and prolonged heatwaves continue to sweep across Europe, triggering health alerts and elevated mortality statistics. In Austria, meteorological officials registered a national record high of 40.8 degrees Celsius in a suburb of Vienna. Meanwhile, French health authorities reported more than 7,300 excess deaths associated with 52 heatwave days recorded since mid-June.

In Italy, a fourth summer heatwave led the health ministry to issue red weather alerts across all 27 major cities, including Messina and Reggio Calabria. Italian officials warned that temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius and urged the public to stay indoors during afternoon hours. Further elevated temperatures, alongside persistent drought and heightened wildfire risks, are forecasted to affect Western and Southern Europe, including France and the United Kingdom.
