Ex-Ukrainian defense minister urges technical groundwork for post-war elections

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on Kyiv to begin technical preparations for future elections, despite ongoing martial law restrictions.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, has urged Kyiv to initiate technical preparations for future national elections. Although martial law currently prohibits holding elections during wartime, Fedorov argued that early administrative planning is vital to overcome complex logistical obstacles.
Key challenges include organizing voting mechanisms for frontline soldiers, millions of internally displaced citizens, and millions of refugees living abroad. While Ukrainian officials have shown no intention of lifting martial law while fighting persists, Fedorov emphasized that groundwork must begin ahead of time to ensure democratic processes remain operational once security conditions allow.
