Firefighters in France and Germany face mixed outcomes as steep terrain complicates efforts near Schramberg while a major blaze in NRW is contained.

Firefighters across Western Europe are continuing efforts to contain severe wildfires. In southwestern France, a blaze in the Landes department flared up overnight, burning approximately 1,580 hectares of pine forest and forcing the evacuation of 650 residents, though local officials reported no destroyed homes.

In Germany, challenging conditions persist near Schramberg in Baden-Württemberg, where steep terrain has complicated ground access and allowed the fire to expand. Meanwhile, along the German-Belgian border in the High Fens nature reserve, emergency crews supported by German military helicopters continue fighting flames that previously prompted precautionary evacuations in Monschau. However, officials reported progress elsewhere, with a 300-hectare wildfire in the Hürtgenwald area of North Rhine-Westphalia successfully contained and conditions stabilizing in the Westerwald region.
