European authorities investigate Chechen exile attacks and Baltic hybrid threats

Authorities across Europe are examining dual security concerns involving Russian-linked hybrid tactics and targeted political violence. European intelligence services are tracking paramilitary networks connected to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov following a series of assaults, shootings, and assassinations targeting dissidents in Sweden, Austria, and Poland. Originating as a presidential security unit in 2000, Kadyrov’s force has reportedly evolved into an international apparatus targeting regime critics abroad.

Concurrently, law enforcement in Lithuania and the Czech Republic are investigating suspected Russian hybrid operations after mourning wreaths were discovered outside defense manufacturing facilities. A Lithuanian defense executive described the act as direct intimidation following previous cyberattacks against his company. Police in Lithuania have detained one suspect, while security services across the region continue to warn defense contractors of potential foreign provocations.
