Lithuanian president urges calm as military reinforces border with Russia

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has reassured citizens regarding increased border security with Russia while pointing to broader defense challenges.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has called on the public to remain calm following the deployment of military forces along the border with Russia, describing the fortification efforts as a proactive safeguard against potential security risks. Nausėda stressed that taking early precautions is preferable to responding after an incident occurs.
Alongside border measures, Nausėda acknowledged several national defense challenges, including suboptimal air defense capabilities and delays in joint drone manufacturing ventures with Ukraine. He also addressed internal friction between the defense ministry and military leadership, as well as public concern over recent ministry controversies. Despite these internal and operational hurdles, Nausėda reiterated that early preparation remains vital to mitigating regional threats and ensuring long-term national security.
