Europe continues to suffer under extreme summer heatwaves, with record-breaking temperatures in Austria, elevated mortality in France, and maximum alerts across major Italian cities.

Extreme weather conditions continue to grip Europe as a series of heatwaves brings record temperatures, heightened health risks, and elevated mortality across multiple countries.

Italian authorities expanded red weather alerts to cover all 27 major cities during the nation's fourth heatwave of the season, warning of high health risks and temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius. In Austria, meteorologists registered a historic national high of 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna.

Meanwhile, French health officials reported more than 7,300 excess deaths linked to prolonged heat waves between May and July, during which the country experienced 52 days of severe heat. Western European nations, including the United Kingdom and France, are bracing for further temperature spikes alongside persistent drought conditions and wildfire threats.
