Europe faces dangerous heatwaves, with red alerts across 27 Italian cities, an Austrian record of 40.8C, and over 7,300 excess deaths reported in France.

Extreme heat continues to sweep across Europe, prompting emergency alerts and driving historic temperatures. In Italy, health authorities issued red warnings across 27 major cities as the country navigates its fourth heatwave of the season, with meteorologists forecasting temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius and advising residents to avoid midday sun after multiple fatalities were confirmed.

Meanwhile, Austria registered an unprecedented national high of 40.8 degrees Celsius in the Vienna region. The extended warm periods have generated substantial health impacts across the continent, with French authorities reporting more than 7,300 excess deaths linked to multiple heatwaves between May and July. As parts of France and the United Kingdom brace for further temperature spikes, prolonged drought conditions and heightened wildfire risks continue across southern and western Europe.
