EU pledges firm response as Russian strikes on Kyiv and energy targets escalate

Russian forces launched renewed drone attacks on Kyiv, injuring at least one person following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's address to the UN General Assembly. Moscow's Defense Ministry subsequently announced an intensified campaign aimed at devastating Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Simultaneously, Ukrainian long-range strikes against Russian oil refineries disrupted domestic supplies, forcing Moscow to source petroleum products internationally.

Security concerns also flared within European Union borders as German authorities identified two suspects with ties to Moscow regarding explosive drone incidents near Leipzig. Reacting to the threat, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated the bloc "will not tolerate attacks on EU soil" and promised a coordinated response to hostile acts inside member states.
