The EU extended sanctions on Russia following a border railway strike, as Trump claimed a mutual halt on energy attacks despite ongoing combat in Ukraine and Russia.

US President Donald Trump announced that Moscow and Kyiv agreed to cease strikes on energy infrastructure, though heavy fighting persists across multiple sectors. Local officials reported two fatalities and 14 injuries from Russian shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region, while Ukrainian drone strikes wounded seven people in Russia's Belgorod region and Sochi.

In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the nation's prosecutor general by executive decree. On the international stage, the European Union extended its sanctions regime against Moscow following a Russian missile strike on a train near the Polish border. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot characterized the railway attack as a deliberate effort to intimidate European allies and foster division among nations supporting Ukraine.
