EU extends sanctions against Russia as cross-border strikes persist

The EU has extended sanctions against Russia as cross-border attacks continue, President Trump claims an energy strike deal, and President Zelensky dismisses Ukraine's prosecutor general.
The European Union has prolonged its sanctions framework against Russia amid ongoing hostilities and political developments. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned a recent Russian strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, warning that the operation aimed to intimidate and divide European allies.
Simultaneously, U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that Kyiv and Moscow have agreed to refrain from targeting energy infrastructure. In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a decree formally removing the nation's prosecutor general from office.
Frontline combat continues to cause casualties on both sides. Ukrainian officials reported two deaths and 14 injuries from Russian bombardments in the Kherson region, while drone strikes in Sochi and Russia's Belgorod region reportedly injured seven people.
