EU extends sanctions against Russia as cross-border strikes continue

The EU extended sanctions on Russia following a border train attack, while cross-border strikes continued despite U.S. claims of an energy infrastructure truce.
European Union officials extended sanctions against Russia following a missile strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, an action EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot characterized as an effort to divide and intimidate Europe.
Meanwhile, hostilities persisted despite statements from U.S. President Donald Trump claiming both nations had agreed to halt strikes on energy infrastructure. Russian shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region killed two people and wounded 14 others. In Russia, authorities reported seven injuries caused by Ukrainian drone strikes in Sochi and the Belgorod region.
In Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky formally dismissed Ukraine's prosecutor general via official decree.
