EU extends Russia sanctions as Trump claims agreement on energy strikes

EU extends sanctions against Russia while US President Donald Trump claims Moscow and Kyiv agreed to halt energy infrastructure attacks.
European Union leaders have extended sanctions against Russia as fighting continues across the region. The decision follows remarks from EU diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who condemned a Russian strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, framing it as an effort to divide European partners.
On the ground, local officials reported two fatalities and 14 injuries from Russian shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drone attacks reportedly wounded seven individuals across Sochi and Russia's Belgorod region.
In diplomatic developments, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Moscow and Kyiv reached an understanding to cease targeting energy infrastructure. Simultaneously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree dismissing the nation's prosecutor general.
