EU extends Russia sanctions after delisting two oligarchs

EU member states extended sanctions on nearly 3,000 Russian entities after removing two oligarchs and approving a major new restrictions package.
European Union member states have formally agreed to prolong sanctions against nearly 3,000 Russian individuals and entities linked to the war in Ukraine. The agreement followed an initial delay when diplomatic disagreements threatened to let existing measures expire.
To break the deadlock, member states accepted proposals from France, Slovakia, and Luxembourg to remove steel magnate Alisher Usmanov and financier Mikhail Fridman from the restricted list. Following this compromise, EU foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg approved an expanded, record-setting sanctions package targeting Russia's war economy. European officials framed the new measures as a vital commitment to supporting Kyiv amid growing concerns over future military and financial aid from the United States.
