Azerbaijan outlines strategy to expand Organization of Turkic States into security and energy bloc
Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev outlined plans to broaden the Organization of Turkic States beyond cultural ties into a security and energy corridor alliance.
Azerbaijan is pushing to transform the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) from a cultural alliance into a comprehensive political, economic, and security bloc, according to statements by President Ilham Aliyev.
Speaking as Baku hosts several high-level regional gatherings, Aliyev emphasized the need to harmonize member states' interests across strategic sectors, including defense, energy, and transport corridors spanning Eurasia. The initiative seeks to strengthen cohesion among Turkic nations while elevating the group's global standing.
By leveraging its location, Baku aims to position itself as a central transit and security coordinator within the OTS framework. The proposed expansion reflects broader efforts to secure regional supply chains and deepen geopolitical cooperation among member countries.
