French firefighters contain Aude wildfire as 115,000 hectares burn nationwide
French firefighters have contained a 100-hectare blaze in Aude, while official data shows wildfires have burned over 115,000 hectares nationwide this year.
Firefighters across France continue responding to wildfires, with varying progress reported in different regions. The blaze in the Corbières massif near Montséret in the Aude department has been contained after burning 100 hectares, though a separate 225-hectare fire near Puilaurens remains active due to steep, inaccessible terrain. In the Var department, conditions allowed emergency services to extinguish local blazes, though prefectural authorities banned access to seven forest massifs due to extreme fire risks.
Official figures from the Ministry of the Interior indicate that wildfires have scorched 115,000 hectares across France since the start of the year. Meanwhile, Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced plans to visit Gironde on August 17 to initiate reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the recent megafire, which is currently contained.
