European Commission prepares targeted roadmaps for leading EU candidates

The European Commission is drafting tailored roadmaps to fast-track European Union accession for Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, and Moldova. The strategy introduces a phased integration model intended to reward top-performing candidate countries while seeking to alleviate current member states' concerns regarding potential political and economic costs.

Negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova have already moved forward through the opening of initial policy clusters. Analysts noted that despite severe ongoing security challenges in Eastern Europe, both candidate nations maintain a strong political motivation to align with the bloc. Meanwhile, applicants lagging in judicial and governance standards face delayed progress under the refined enlargement framework.
