Experts question impact of US diesel deal with Russia as political scrutiny grows
Experts warn that Donald Trump's diesel agreement with Vladimir Putin will offer minimal price relief while causing long-term diplomatic damage.
US President Donald Trump has arranged an initial supply of over 300,000 metric tons of Russian diesel, with total planned shipments potentially reaching several million tons. The agreement aims to reduce domestic fuel prices ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, marking a policy pivot shortly after Washington enacted tariffs against importers of Russian energy.
Energy analysts argue the imported volumes are too small to significantly lower pump prices. Observers also warn that purchasing Russian fuel undermines Western diplomatic efforts and economic sanctions intended to isolate Moscow.
