EU extends Russia sanctions as Trump claims energy strike truce between Moscow and Kyiv
The EU extended sanctions on Russia as Donald Trump announced a mutual halt on energy strikes between Kyiv and Moscow, despite continued military attacks.
United States President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to refrain from targeting each other's energy infrastructure. Concurrently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an executive decree dismissing the country's prosecutor general.
In Brussels, the European Union formally extended its sanctions against Russia. EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned a Russian attack on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, warning that the strike was intended to intimidate and divide European nations.
Hostilities persisted on both sides of the border. Ukrainian authorities reported two fatalities and 14 injuries caused by Russian shelling in the Kherson region. Meanwhile, Russian officials reported that Ukrainian drone strikes injured seven people across Sochi and the Belgorod region.
