Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged parliament to lay the legal groundwork for post-war elections despite current martial law restrictions.

Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on parliament to begin preparing the legal framework for post-war national elections. Although elections are currently prohibited under martial law due to Russia’s ongoing invasion, Fedorov argued that early regulatory action is critical.

Fedorov, who was dismissed from his cabinet post by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that lawmakers must address complex electoral challenges in advance. Key obstacles include establishing voting mechanisms for millions of overseas refugees, internally displaced citizens, and military personnel serving on the frontline once hostilities conclude.

Although Ukrainian officials have not announced a timeline for post-conflict polling, Fedorov maintained that legislative foundations must be established early to ensure a stable democratic transition when fighting ends.
