The EU extended sanctions against Russia following a train attack near the Polish border, while cross-border strikes and political changes continued in Ukraine and Russia.
The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia following a military strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot denounced the incident, stating the attack aimed to intimidate European partners and create political divisions.
Military engagements continued on multiple fronts. Russian artillery strikes in Ukraine's Kherson region killed two people and injured 14 others. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drone strikes targeting the Russian city of Sochi and the Belgorod region resulted in seven injuries.
In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued an executive decree removing the national prosecutor general from office. These developments coincide with assertions by US President Donald Trump that Moscow and Kyiv have reached a mutual understanding to cease attacks on energy infrastructure.
