US indicts five over Russian intelligence assassination and sabotage campaign
US prosecutors unsealed charges against five alleged Russian agents, while a German court convicted a man in a related parcel bomb plot.
United States federal prosecutors in Manhattan have unsealed an indictment charging five alleged Russian intelligence operatives with directing an international network responsible for assassination plots, arson, and sabotage. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the suspects recruited and compensated individuals in North America and Europe to track and attack targets supporting Ukraine, including a June 2024 incident in Prague. All five defendants remain at large.
Concurrently, a regional court in Stuttgart, Germany, convicted a Ukrainian national involved in a Russian-backed operation involving parcel bombs. Investigators found that three individuals dispatched packages containing hidden explosives and tracking devices across commercial shipping routes to disrupt public security. Authorities across Western nations continue to investigate further covert operations linked to Russian state entities.
