Spain establishes temporary housing for migrants remaining in Ceuta
Spanish authorities have moved around 2,000 migrants into temporary centers in Ceuta following July's border surge, as local frustration persists.
Spanish authorities have transferred roughly 1,800 to 2,000 migrants into two newly constructed temporary reception centers in the North African enclave of Ceuta. The Ministry of Migration created the facilities to prevent individuals from sleeping on streets and beaches following late July's massive crossing attempt, when an estimated 72,000 people entered from Morocco.
While heavy police deployments from both Spain and Morocco successfully prevented a rumored follow-up surge on August 15, social tensions remain high within the enclave. Local residents have expressed growing frustration over strained municipal infrastructure and the prolonged presence of displaced individuals, with some calling for faster relocations to the Spanish mainland.
