Spain sets up temporary camps in Ceuta as border security holds
Spanish authorities have created temporary facilities in Ceuta for remaining migrants following late July border breaches, as reinforced security prevents new mass entries.
Spanish authorities have established two temporary reception facilities in Ceuta to shelter approximately 1,800 to 2,000 migrants remaining in the enclave following a massive border crossing in late July. The Spanish Ministry of Migration confirmed the move is intended to prevent individuals from sleeping on streets and beaches.
Security along the frontier remained heightened over the weekend after social media rumors called for another coordinated breach on August 15. Joint operations between Spanish forces and Moroccan police successfully prevented further mass arrivals, with additional officers and vehicles deployed along the border.
While physical calm has returned to the border zone, social and political tensions persist in Ceuta. Local residents have expressed growing frustration over resource strains, while some accuse political groups of exploiting the humanitarian situation.
