Trump and Hegseth reject reports of US ammunition shortages amid Iran conflict
US officials deny reports of depleted military stockpiles from the Iran conflict, despite a Pentagon watchdog report citing strategic inventory bottlenecks.
US President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have forcefully dismissed media reports indicating critical ammunition shortages within the American military due to ongoing operations against Iran. CNN and other domestic outlets previously reported that depleting missile stocks influenced military decision-making. Writing on Truth Social, Trump asserted that the US holds "huge amounts of 'ammunition'" and threatened leakers and journalists reporting on inventory issues with severe prison sentences.
However, a report presented to the US Congress by an internal Pentagon watchdog directly contradicted administration claims of unlimited stockpiles. The document cited "strategic inventory bottlenecks and supply constraints" resulting from sustained conflict in the Middle East, while detailing rising financial costs and equipment strain.
