Spain establishes temporary centers for remaining migrants in Ceuta
Spanish authorities moved roughly 2,000 migrants into temporary reception facilities in Ceuta following a heightened border security deployment over the weekend.
Spanish authorities have begun relocating around 2,000 migrants into two temporary reception facilities in the enclave of Ceuta. Approximately 1,800 individuals had remained stranded on local beaches and streets following a massive border crossing in late July involving an estimated 72,000 people, the majority of whom returned to Morocco.
Combined border enforcement by Spain and Morocco successfully averted a rumored secondary crossing attempt planned for August 15. While the new housing aims to clear makeshift coastal shelters, local frustration persists regarding social pressure and political maneuvering surrounding the situation.
