Germany plans new security measures following Russian airport drone plot
Germany is preparing new security measures, including a cyber dome and anti-drone units, after attributing an airport sabotage attempt to Russia.
Following the formal attribution of the August 4 Leipzig/Halle Airport drone plot to Russian state entities, Germany's Interior Ministry is preparing enhanced defense measures against foreign sabotage. According to media reports, the proposed security strategy includes establishing a "cyber dome" alongside specialized mobile anti-drone units to safeguard critical infrastructure against hybrid threats.
The security overhaul comes after German authorities identified two suspects—a Belarusian national and a Russian-born citizen—and took diplomatic action by closing Russia's Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov rejected the allegations, accusing Germany of pursuing a "path of further escalation." German officials described the targeted drone attempt against Ukrainian An-124 cargo aircraft as part of a wider pattern of Russian state-sponsored operations across Europe.
