Moldova condemns Russian election plans in Transnistria alongside domestic policy shifts
Moldova has condemned unapproved Russian polling plans in Transnistria, while ministers prepare grain import licenses and address youth nicotine use.
Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized Russia's plan to open polling stations in Transnistria for upcoming elections without official authorization, calling it a violation of national sovereignty. On the economic front, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced plans to reinstate grain import licensing through October 31 to protect domestic farmers from market volatility.
Meanwhile, educational and public health authorities have launched an awareness campaign regarding youth nicotine pouch usage. The initiative follows controversy over tobacco company Philip Morris introducing nicotine pouches shortly before a scheduled mid-2026 ban takes effect. In a separate law enforcement operation, authorities in northern Moldova confiscated 1.9 million contraband cigarettes during raids targeting an illicit smuggling group.
