Iran threatens neighboring states as economic confrontation with US deepens
Tehran has warned neighboring states against aiding U.S. economic sanctions while maintaining a strategic blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran has issued stern warnings to neighboring countries against aiding upcoming United States economic sanctions, threatening to target their regional interests if Washington escalates aggressive actions. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, issued the statement following announcements by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding unprecedented financial measures against Iran.
Concurrently, Iranian hardliners continue to maintain a maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, using the position to demand full compliance with a June 14-point memorandum, including complete sanctions relief and the release of unfrozen foreign assets. Iranian military officials also rejected U.S. assertions that recent strikes successfully thwarted sea-mining operations in the Strait, dismissing Washington's claims as "pure fantasy and pure narrative."
