Trump suggests deal on Strait of Hormuz could be near despite Tehran's conditions
U.S. President Donald Trump suggested an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz could be reached soon, while Tehran insists restrictions will remain until Washington alters its policy.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz could be finalized within days, while reiterating that no direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran are scheduled. Trump asserted the strategic waterway remains "open and operational," despite recent vessel strikes and a 20 percent drop in commercial maritime traffic over the past week. He also warned of potential military escalation if American objectives in the region are obstructed.
Concurrently, Iranian foreign ministry officials confirmed ongoing discussions with Oman aimed at establishing secure commercial shipping lanes. However, Tehran reiterated that access through the strait will remain restricted until the United States alters its policy. Iranian representatives also dismissed reports of direct dialogue with Washington, warning that the country could adopt an offensive posture if diplomatic efforts fail.
