US unlikely to seal Patriot missile co-production deal with Ukraine before winter
A long-term agreement between the US and Ukraine on co-producing Patriot air defense missiles will not be signed before winter, according to US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
Washington is unlikely to reach a long-term agreement with Kyiv on the joint production of Patriot air defense interceptors before this winter, according to US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Whitaker explained that restrictions regarding sensitive military technology prevent an immediate deal on manufacturing rights for the Patriot system. Nevertheless, he noted that the United States is actively pursuing joint production initiatives with Ukraine and European allies for other air defense equipment.
Kyiv has repeatedly pressed Western partners to expand domestic defense manufacturing to enhance its long-term resilience and protect critical infrastructure against potential Russian air attacks during the winter. While the Patriot agreement remains delayed, US officials reiterated that broader bilateral defense co-production efforts continue to advance.
