Strait of Hormuz talks yield mixed signals amid US optimism and Iranian demands
Negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz produce contrasting signals as US President Donald Trump foresees a quick deal while Tehran insists on sanction relief and issues military warnings.
US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations mediated by Oman could result in an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz "very soon," warning that Iran faces severe military strikes if the waterway remains blocked. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also cited progress in discussions.
Conversely, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei confirmed a technical consensus with Oman on a safe navigation map, but Tehran insisted the strait will stay closed until Washington lifts port blockades and oil sanctions, unfreezes Iranian assets, and halts military operations. Meanwhile, Revolutionary Guard commanders pledged "strategic surprises" and vowed not to capitulate to American pressure.
