Strait of Hormuz deadlock continues as US and Iran issue contrasting statements
Diplomatic efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz remain stalled as Washington predicts a swift deal while Tehran insists on sanction relief.
Negotiations to unblock the Strait of Hormuz continue to produce divergent signals from Washington and Tehran. US President Donald Trump stated that talks mediated by Oman are progressing positively, expressing confidence that an agreement to reopen the waterway could be finalized shortly. However, Trump warned that Iran would face severe military strikes if the strategic maritime corridor remains obstructed.
Conversely, Iranian officials maintained that the strait will not open until Washington lifts port blockades, repeals oil sanctions, releases frozen Iranian assets, and ends military operations. Although Tehran reported reaching a technical consensus with Oman regarding a safe navigation route, commanders from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps declared they would not yield to US pressure and threatened "strategic surprises."
