Strait of Hormuz talks advance as Iran seeks US concessions
Iran and Oman continue negotiations on Strait of Hormuz transit corridors, while Tehran demands US concessions and regional talks open in Rome.
Talks between Iran and Oman over navigation through the Strait of Hormuz have advanced, focusing on safe maritime corridors. US President Donald Trump indicated that an agreement could materialize within days, while also framing the standoff as a strategic negotiation shaped by Iran's economic difficulties.
Tehran has reiterated that reopening the critical waterway depends on US concessions, including sanctions relief, a halt to military threats, compensation for damages, and Iranian supervision of transit routes.
Concurrently, Lebanese and Israeli delegations launched a seventh round of talks in Rome, as roughly 800,000 displaced Lebanese citizens reportedly started returning south. Maritime security concerns also persisted after an Indian cargo vessel was struck and sank off Yemen.
