Middle East tensions escalate as US-Iran truce expires and maritime clashes resume
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have escalated following the expiration of their 60-day truce, amid clashes in the Gulf of Oman and missile strikes.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have heightened following the expiration of their 60-day truce established under the Islamabad memorandum.
US President Donald Trump asserted that American forces maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting the waterway could soon be designated US territory. In response, Iranian authorities announced bounties on US military personnel and insisted on full adherence to the June pact—including sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds—while citing Israel as the main impediment to peace.
Military operations also intensified across the region. Air defense batteries intercepted two Iranian missiles over Dubai, and Houthi forces launched fresh strikes on Yemen's port of Al Makha. In the Gulf of Oman, US forces struck the container vessel Vela Nova after accusing it of attempting to breach maritime transit restrictions.
