Cross-border strikes escalate between Ukraine and Russia with high casualties
Reciprocal strikes between Russia and Ukraine have inflicted heavy casualties across Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Belgorod, and the Black Sea coast amid ongoing air defence shortages.
Intense reciprocal strikes between Ukrainian and Russian forces have caused heavy casualties across multiple regions. In Ukraine, Russian aerial attacks killed at least 17 people and injured over 40 in Kyiv and surrounding districts, while glide bombs struck residential neighbourhoods in Zaporizhzhia. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Russian drone strikes on civilians in Kherson and reiterated appeals for additional Western air defence interceptors.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian drone raids struck several targets inside Russia and occupied territories, including the Moscow periphery, Belgorod, Crimea, and the Black Sea coast near Gelendzhik, leaving multiple people dead and wounded. Zelensky stated that Russian forces have deployed three air defence rings around Moscow and Saint Petersburg to counter incursions. Meanwhile, Donald Trump voiced hesitation over sharing Patriot missile technology with Ukraine.
