Global militaries accelerate integration of artificial intelligence in modern combat
Global militaries are accelerating the deployment of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, reshaping modern combat strategies in Ukraine, Russia, and China.
Militaries and defense strategists worldwide are accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence and autonomous technology, reshaping operational capabilities across modern conflicts.
In Ukraine, former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov described the ongoing conflict with Russia as a technological war requiring rapid development cycles in robotics and domestic drone manufacturing. Operational challenges persist, however, including SpaceX's restrictions on using Starlink networks for strikes inside Russian territory. Industry figures, including former Google chief executive Eric Schmidt, have framed the widespread deployment of AI systems in Ukraine as a transformative shift in military history.
Parallel technological advancements are emerging elsewhere. Ukrainian military intelligence reported recovering American-made microprocessors with AI capabilities from Russian missiles. Simultaneously, China's People's Liberation Army is integrating automated systems designed to coordinate and execute large-scale simultaneous airstrikes.
