Ukraine seeks air defense interceptors amid missile shortages and EU funding progress
President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted severe air defense missile shortages while Ukraine secured €1.4 billion in EU funds and met criteria for further accession talks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has held discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to address critical shortages of air defense interceptors. Zelensky stated that Ukraine has received only a third of the interceptors provided during the same period in 2025, even as Russian missile and drone strikes against Kyiv and southern ports intensify.
Concurrently, European integration efforts continue to move forward. Zelensky announced that Ukraine has fulfilled all required criteria to open four additional negotiation clusters for European Union accession.
In financial support, the European Union transferred €1.4 billion to Ukraine. This payment marks the fifth installment funded by interest profits generated from frozen Russian Central Bank assets during the first half of 2026.
