Berlin Pride attack suspect killed by police following manhunt
German police shot and killed 21-year-old suspect Abdul Ballout in Berlin following a vehicle attack at a Pride event that left one person dead and 16 injured.
German authorities have concluded a major manhunt after a suspect linked to a vehicle ramming attack at Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade was shot and killed by police. The incident occurred on Saturday night near Tiergarten park, leaving one woman dead and 16 people injured when a white van was driven into a crowd.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that initial evidence points to a suspected "Islamist attack." Police subsequently tracked the suspect, identified as 21-year-old German citizen Abdul Ballout, to the Spandau district of Berlin. Officers opened fire and killed Ballout after he reportedly rushed at them with a knife. Joint investigations by federal and local law enforcement into Ballout's background and potential extremist connections remain ongoing.
