Western Europe faces extreme heat up to 39°C, dropping Rhine water levels to 1880 lows, and widespread wildfires across France, Spain, and Portugal.

A relentless heatwave continues across Western Europe, with temperatures expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius by Thursday. The Deutscher Wetterdienst extended heat warnings across central and southern Germany, cautioning against severe thunderstorms, hail, and high winds alongside extreme temperatures.

The heat has severely worsened regional infrastructure and environmental conditions. The Rhine River's water level at Kaub fell to its lowest point recorded since 1880, disrupting inland cargo shipping.

Concurrently, emergency personnel across Southwestern Europe remain deployed against major wildfires. Fires in France near Bordeaux have disrupted local tourism, while additional blazes continue to burn in Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands near the German border.
