Western Europe faces extreme heat as Rhine water levels hit historic lows and wildfires persist in France, Spain, and Portugal.

A fresh heatwave is sweeping across Western Europe, with temperatures forecast to peak at 39 degrees Celsius by Thursday. The Deutscher Wetterdienst extended heat and severe weather warnings across central and southern German states, cautioning against heavy thunderstorms, hail, and strong gusts.

Extremely dry conditions continue to severely disrupt regional logistics. The Rhine River's water level at Kaub has fallen to its lowest point recorded since 1880, restricting inland shipping.

Meanwhile, emergency teams in Southwestern Europe remain deployed against widespread wildfires. The ongoing blaze near Bordeaux, France, continues to disrupt local tourism, while additional fires have been reported in Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands near the German border.
