US strikes Iranian island as diplomatic talks over Strait of Hormuz continue
The US launched strikes on Iran's Larak Island as Tehran outlined conditions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz while Qatari diplomatic talks continue.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran persist alongside diplomatic efforts mediated by Qatar. US Central Command conducted strikes targeting missile launchers on Iran's Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first direct attack on Iranian territory in a month. Iranian news agency Tasnim reported six Iranian naval personnel died in recent US strikes.
In parallel diplomatic talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outlined conditions to US envoy Steve Witkoff for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including an immediate end to the US naval blockade, the release of frozen assets, and a cessation of hostilities across all fronts. However, US President Donald Trump announced Washington would demand financial compensation from Tehran for past regional attacks, adding friction to negotiations. Qatari officials stated that discussions remain active to reach an agreement.
